Social Media News: StumbleUpon Reaches 10 Million Users. What is StumbleUpon?
StumbleUpon brings channel surfing to the Internet! StumbleUpon can be a fantastic website but it can also be one of the big time wasters.
This month, StumbleUpon reached 10,000,000 users. This is a huge milestone for these guys and they are celebrating with a party in San Francisco later this month. Unfortunately for people in Australia, we won’t be able to attend unless you’re in USA on the west coast.
StumbleUpon is the second largest social media site – measured by traffic. Facebook is far ahead of any other social media website.
You could define StumbleUpon as a social bookmarking website that allows users to share interesting websites with other users. StumbleUpon has taken it a step further by allowing users to add their favourite websites to different categories.
Please be aware – this is a dangerous tool – it is very addictive and will consume a lot of time if you are not careful.
How does it work?
There are two parts to StumbleUpon. You can channel surf and visit websites that are recommended to you. You can also submit sites and pages to other StumbleUpon users.
How to Stumble
You set what your interests are (marketing, self improvement, technology, computers, business) and click on Start Stumbling.
A new page will load that has been recommended by other ‘Stumblers’. If you do not like that page, click on Stumble! and you will be taken to another page that is related to your interests.
How can I submit my site or favourite site?
You can submit your site by clicking on Stumble Site and adding the category details. This will add the website to the StumbleUpon database. People when then be able to see your site when Stumbling. This is also an effective way of getting traffic.
Wrap Up
I recommend signing up to StumbleUpon and trying the service out. I think it’s a service that fills the social bookmarking niche.
