Search Engine Optimisation: Google Supporting Real-Time Search Results – Project Caffeine
Google announced today this it has rolled out the biggest change in it’s search engine history. Fresh content will now be displayed much faster than ever before.
The project named Google Caffeine which was mentioned in August ’09 is now powering the world’s largest search engine – Google.
It is also believed that the new version of their search engine will handle rich media in a much better way.
I believe two factors have had a big impact on this porject – adding social media to universal search and keeping infront of the competition – Yahoo.
Google needs to keep delivering the best possible search results in the quick time possible (real time) otherwise they could lose their spot as the world’s largest, fastest and best search engine. If Google did lose their number 1 position, they were suffer in a very big way financially.
“Our old index had several layers, some of which were refreshed at a faster rate than others; the main layer would update every couple of weeks. To refresh a layer of the old index, we would analyze the entire web, which meant there was a significant delay between when we found a page and made it available to you.
With Caffeine, we analyze the web in small portions and update our search index on a continuous basis, globally. As we find new pages, or new information on existing pages, we can add these straight to the index. That means you can find fresher information than ever before—no matter when or where it was published.â€
Old search results Vs New Caffeine powered results
A simple search for “Dog” on the old search gave 51,900,000 results in 0.25 seconds. Caffeine gave 359,000,000 in 0.12 seconds. This really an amazing result!
This is a subjective search but from the research I have done, the Caffeine powered results wins hands down. The results were a lot better compared to the old search results.
Search engine optimisation is only going to get more interesting!
The new Google search is only going to get better as more features get integrated and added. Better, faster and more accurate results benefit everyone. Now it’s time for Bing and Yahoo to show some improvements.
